A long interest in spirituality has led me to establish Attar Media, for publishing and promoting music, books and (eventually) films that explore spirituality in its many forms. Obviously, this is not a mainstream area of interest, particularly given NZ’s small population. So digital printing is an economically feasible option for getting books out to readers and reviewers.

To date the three books published by Attar Media are mystical poetry. A poetic translation of “The Bhagavad Gita” and “Walking Without Feet: Selected Poetry of Mirabia and Kabir”. These were both written while staying on an ashram in Rajasthan. Both were printed digitally in March and June 2009. The third book, “Psalms of Exile and Return”, which pays tribute to the Jewish poetic and prophetic tradition, was published conventionally.

Attar is also publishing prose work that explores the practical and philosophic aspects of spirituality. “Guided Healing” by Hamilton meditator and healer Peter Calvert was printed in a first run of 100 books in May 2009, and will be followed by “Secular Spirituality” later in the year. I intend to keep publishing digitally – at least until we have a best-seller on our hands!

Over the three books to date I have had a very satisfactory experience working with Microfilm Digital Print. They are fast, efficient, and do a great printing job – readers and booksellers have no idea that the books are printed digitally. And at volumes of 100, you can price the books competitively for bookstores. Highly recommended.
